The Alternative Science News Service
The Alternative Science News Service is our major new development and is designed to help scientists promote their work widely in public and to give journalists and writers a richer ecosystem to source stories from. Not everyone can publish in big journals such as Nature, Science and The Lancet. We help scientists create engaging content around their work which just happens to be published elsewhere. Journalists and writers can then build on this to develop interesting and understandable stories for their audiences. Learn more in 2 minutes here >>.
How does it work?
The service works on the basis of news packages. In contrast to press releases, these provide journalists and writers with substantially more materials to work from when creating their articles. You can find out more about news packages and what they consist of here. The package is designed in a way that helps tell your story accurately.
You can develop your own news package and submit it for free to the service.
Not confident of doing this on your own? We can help you develop your news package. The price for this service is available here.

What happens after I submit a news package to the service?
Once your news package is accepted and published on the service, this will be available to journalists and writers to download for a small fee. They will then develop a story specifically tailored for their audience. To help you understand the impact your news package is having in the media, we will track its development and provide reports back to you on its progress. This can be useful information for future grant funding applications. These are becoming more and more pinned to previous communication and outreach activities.
Don't want your content behind a pay wall? Want to give your news package the maximum chances of getting coverage? We see your point. The prices for making it open access are available here.

Bonus! What's up for grabs?
Getting media coverage is one thing and can be seriously good for your career as a scientist. However, to encourage submissions to the service, we will be offering chances to win research funding. Initially these will be in the form of small grants for items such as travel to conferences. These will be offered mainly on the basis of impact in the media. Terms and Conditions will apply.
